C DisK-IV Ocean Expedition

Chief Scientists Will Berelson (USC) and Jess Adkins (Caltech) lead an international team of oceanographers on a Pacific research cruise that will help unravel the mysteries of carbonate dissolution. Film by Molly Murphy, Jacki Moonves, and the Los Angeles Natural History Museum. Music by Alessandro Tabora.

In the summer of 2017...

I was invited aboard the Kilo Moana to do outreach work with the amazing Jacki Moonves (cinematographer). C DisK-IV was the science expedition name and measuring carbonate dissolution was the oceanography game! C DisK-IV set out to measure climate change's impact on ocean acidification and the team of scientists came away with some notable results. Jacki and I had the honorable job of translating the scientific findings into plain English. Spending a month at sea traveling on the Pacific from Hawaii to Alaska, Jacki and I collaborated on films, drawings and blog posts related to the research gathered on board.

When you spend a long enough time looking out onto the open seas, you start seeing things... We made fun pieces like this to keep research momentum going!
